I have never paid attention to it for years because I have never come to experience such incident on which I can relate to, but I know that many have experience either way. And this will be changed eventually with Mosbeau.

Mosbeau, one of the fast growing and slowly being recognized cosmetic company announced their need for positions including Senior Copywriter positions and many more. Having a thought about a friends’ recommendation, I personally alotted time to give it a try.

Don’t get me wrong, I am currently working, running my own business online, and in a good standing in terms of my career, but went to try otherwise for what it’s worth.

Since the office is based in Makati, I have to come as early as two hours ahead to buy time in finding parking space and also not to be late. When I got there, I adviced my headhunter friend to inform the Mosbeau HR about my presence and about my appointment confirmation.

When I got in the office, first approach of the reception was (which happens to be the security guard), made of a sour impression on me. Looking at me from head to toe. I was dumbfounded! He then asked, what’s my business with them. I said, I have appointment with Dianne de Vera, but the guy said, she is not around and called sick that day, hence the person who will talk to me will be the other HR personnel, but before I took a sit, he said something of what I am wearing, saying, why Im not on a formal attire.

I dont have any recollection in my mind that I needed to be in a formal dress or attire, although I am wearing smart casual outfit, in pair of long sleeves top and levis bottoms which I could say just right for the position I am applying. The position requires creative mind and creative skills on which I believe I dressed how creative people does.

After a while, the HR personnel, who was dressed in a cheap yellow skirt and ragged blazer approached me and said in verbatim:

” I’m sorry but we can’t accommodate you today for the interview, we believe we have sent out a protocol about dress codes of our applicants, that no pants here and that we require our interviewees to be on a formal attire, for whatever position it might be. And looking at you, I dont think you are in wearing appropriate attire.”

I was dumbfounded again, but before I got carried away of what transpired, having a “maldita attitude in me” bounced back and expressed disbelief from what I heard.

In addition, the headhunter friend who recommended me said nothing about such protocol and also utter disbelief about such protocol that wasnt even true.

I said, “Ohh is that so, first of all, I wasnt informed about your so-called dress protocol, and don’t see anything wrong about what I wear. Second, I believe you just said right now, that you only hire people based on their personal looks and appearance and how they clothed themselves rather than how they qualify based on their skills set and with their talents.”

After that, she smirked and said, oh well, thats how we do it here, sorry!

And so, I thank her for their time wasted which pale in comparison to my wasted time just coming in their office.

I thought,  ”What a BUMMER!” My outfit is even expensive just looking at what you have in your body, and with that attitude in your face.

I silently thought too, after I looked her from head to toe, whether or not she is wearing something appropriate for the office, while her footwear is a slip on. She was wearing a faded yellow skirt without make up on, and lousy blouse that I think only costs a 100 pesos from Ukay Ukay, and a blazer that doesnt even compare to my Espada Suit.

I wasted time and effort coming to this Mosbeau office for unworthy result. In the end, I have thanked myself for not pursuing the job, I am still thankful that it did happen and I charged it to experience. It made me think how recruitment here in the Philippines sucks. Mosbeau made it easy for me to understand what kind of Human Resource people they hire.

I could easily understand whether or not the HR made a wrong impression of me, because I look strikingly better than anybody in their office. Mosbeau hires stupid, unethical, and arrogant ugly people which is far too different from their so called beauty products.

Generally, it is unfortunate indeed that there is no clear guideline or even law that surfaces for Philippines to protect the people from such discrimination as this one.

Adding to the sad reality that a lot of Human Resource practitioners even lacked the right training and pro-active attitude towards a fair job application and interview process.

Next time, you asked for people to come over to your office, remember, you needed people to fill in positions you require. And not all interviewees are going to kiss your asses just to get a job in lousy company!

It’s time for MOD style to emerge on its old niche and bring in new soul. Soul singer Amy Winehouse spotted collaborating with Fred Perry, the label worn by everyone from mods, rude boys, to punks. As her signature style has caught some eyes, on her usual self wearing ballet pumps, beehive and fifties-style dresses. She may not have a good taste or choice of controversies following her but she indeed has a distinctive style and surely knows what she like. She has drawn certain sketches of her much awaited collection with label Fred Perry as seen below.
I am pretty much excited with the idea, as I am a self confessed fan of Fred Perry outfits.

Things that I like in Bellinis aside from its atmosphere, is the fancy Italian menu. You would think that a place like this in the middle of Cubao area would be no different from the commercially built restos, all built to promote party or gimmick place or other similar kinds.

There were different emotions shared as well in this place and surely, if the joint will close, it will be a sad one. When we are in love, in a celebrating moments, or even in sad moments, this place has been a confidante. The servers are trained in a way for you to relate to them in a simple and not so classy type, and you can just be yourself. The food is no way to experiment. The place hold a special distinction in my heart as this is the place where both my husband and I often go to when we have issues to sort out or just a simple dinner where both of us want to feel alone and familiar with.

We always come back here for their signature selection of pastas and my all time favorite Alle Sarde Pizza, pizza topped with onions and sardines. I tried the Portobello Mushroom, my husband didn’t like the taste but for me it was heavenly. I like the taste of the sauce that has a hint of an italian wine or porbably a balsamic vinegar, but I can only guess since they often not give out recipes. But anyhow, the experience was awesome. Even the breadsticks are such a treat during your afternoon coffee break. I actually bought 100 grams for take home so I could nibble on it with my coffee on the other hand. I wish to come back here for more treat, and celebration.

After my brother’s passing and finally resting in peace out of a hard battle of cancer, the emptiness lies in my heart as though it just happened yesterday. I seek forgiveness in every thought about him and refuge of humble nature that he had shown to everyone.  Too much hate, too much blame, and being too much self-righteous had made some impurities in my being. There is the kind of burden that breaks you when silence comes in.

There are many things that I could’ve wrote knowing that it has been almost a year or so or probably more than six months since I last utter any thoughts and blog about it. The recent moments that had gone through me and my family made me even stronger even until this very moment when I have to exhaust all my strength for recovery and being able to stand up and raise my head again.

Sometimes, you can never let go of people who hurt you or people who brought such negative things in your life, but there is a choice of not being a part of it if you will not condone it.

Some success came in making me forget what I had been keeping in my soul. And now another tragedy seems to cross our path. Is this the real definition of crossroads? Is this how life must be? I sometimes and I’m afraid I had been making a sin out of this thought but who’s gonna stop me? There are always negative things that happen and sometimes people lay defeated, and at this moment I am feeling it again.

On April 15, 2010 Acting Secretary of Justice Alberto Agra said in a meeting with Maguindanao massacre victims’ relatives that he has yet to study the petition for review filed by accused Zaldy Ampatuan et al. He also told the families that his previous media statements that he thought there was no evidence against Zaldy Ampatuan were merely his “initial findings.” Secretary Agra also stated that he had no conclusions yet and that he will still review the evidence submitted before him. At the time, we thought it was a neutral, impartial and fair statement to the victims’ families.
The following day, April 16, 2010, Secretary Agra released his resolution on the petition for review of Zaldy Ampatuan et al. It is unfortunate that Secretary Agra reversed the panel’s resolution indicting Zaldy Ampatuan and Akmad Ampatuan Sr.
As professional career prosecutors, it pains us to publicly disagree with the resolution of the Secretary of Justice. We recognize the appellate jurisdiction of the Secretary and his authority over us. We may have differences of opinions, but at the end of the day and after all is said and done, his opinion prevails over ours. But, we, being in the frontline, still believe with due respect that there is probably cause to indict the two accused.
It is a rule in evidence that positive identification of a witness prevails over negative assertion. Interesting and ironically, while Secretary Agra basically implies that witness Kenny Dalandag is very credible as to his positive identification of other accused during the planning of the murders, he is not at all credible when he identified Zaldy Ampatuan. The supposed plane tickets, flight manifests and phone statements of Zaldy Ampatuan that purportedly proved his absence in Maguindanao on November 23, 2009, have yet to stand scrutiny through cross-examination. In a conspiracy indictment, where the accused is a principal by inducement, his physical presence at the crime scene is not even necessary. In short, these documents are evidentiary matters that should still be presented in court. The resolution basically redefined the plain and ordinary meaning of “probably cause.” This is not the role of the DOJ in a preliminary investigation or in a petition for review. This is the sole function of the courts. Our task is merely to determine probably cause.
When the resolution was released last Friday, Zaldy Ampatuan and other Ampatuan accused were being transported from General Santos City and Davao City to Camp Bagong Diwa by order of Judge Solis-Reyes.
The court detains, the prosecution arm absolves.
The Department of Justice is supposed to be the sword and shield of law and order. We are deeply concerned that the resolution will all the more convince a long skeptical public that our criminal justice system is impotent when the accused are politically influential.
We pray and hope that despite difficulties and setbacks, justice will ultimately be served to the victims of this tragedy. It is along this line that we earnestly and respectfully request Acting Secretary Agra to revisit his resolution. Otherwise, we dishonor the primary reason for which our institution exists and its very name: the Department of Justice.
